There are references about Indian astrology in ancient scriptures, Vedas and Puranas authored thousands of years ago in this part of the land. The first known treatise on Vedic Astrology is supposed to be authored by Lord Skanda the son of one of the trinities in Hindu religion, Lord Shiva the re-creator.Even today this treatise is available and stands testimony to the age of this branch of futurology.

Indian Vedic Astrology is known for its unique system of predictions and calculations. While western astrology basically follows the Sun signs and predictions are based on the the same, Indian Vedic Astrology takes into consideration the Moon sign, which is more broad, personalized and accurate. The signs of the zodiac being twelve the whole human race is divided into 12 equal divisions in other branches of Astrology and they are more of general in nature, the Indian Astrology make use of the Moon sign, and each Zodiacal sign is further sub divided into 9 thus making the calculations more subtle. Not only the zodiacal signs are classified according to constellations or ‘Nakshatras’ as it is called in Sanskrit, The placement of the planets is also considered from these constellations. Indian Astrology based on Parasara system the conventional system widely followed in India, and later on sharpened by celebrities like Varahamihira, is a fool proof system. There is no second work on astrology to match the Brihatjathaka authored by Varahamihira the legendary figure in Indian Astrology.

One of the ancient and popular astrologers of Kerala, Thalakkulathur Bhattathiripad had written a comprehensive explanation only on the first 10 chapters of ‘Brihatjathaka” known as ‘Dasadhyayee’ since he was of the opinion that the whole essence of Vedic Astrology had been summarized by Varahamihira in the first 10 chapters itself in his monumental work.Today the Vedic Astrologers, of Kerala, the cradle of Hindu Astrology, follows the latter work of Bhattathiripad and another unique treatise known as ‘Prasnamargam’ the one and only comprehensive horary astrological treatise available today.

Indian Vedic Astrology apart from its unique system of prediction as explained above also follows the Dasa system based on the constellation of natal Moon in the birth chart to precisely predict the timing of events which no other branch of Astrology can boast of.In short it is one of the most scientific and reliable tools to have an insight into one’s personality and future events or circumstances that could help ease the life of an individual and lead a more comfortable life if not a perfect one.

There have been a variety of books covering the subject of vedic astrology, in fact the origin of these systems came from the Vedas. The first book produced and is considered to be the oldest books known to man, which is approximately four thousand years old was a book entitled, Vedic Sciences. These are actually some of the most important scriptures from India, and Vedic does means knowledge, which encompasses the earthly phenomena past, present, and future.

Vedic astrology books informs its readers of the knowledge and the importance of this ancient work. It is the analysis and the forecasting system that on astronomical facts and data. This information allows individuals the ability to analysis this information so they can get a better understanding of movements of the planets and how it effects the behavior on man in the past, present, and in the future. Astrology is an essential that mandates man and nature to be combined and live in harmony with one another to prevent suffering and increase growing opportunities.

Vedic astrology or Jyotisha is greatly based upon the laws of nature combined with the cosmos, which are expressed in the unity of life. It is not relative of who you are, but instead it deals more with the karma within your life. It has been describes as the ability of any astrologer who is willing to view the behavior of an individual along with the cycles of life and their outcomes in reference to events and times. It is an underlying intelligence that is governed by precision, but is totally different from our more modern Western Astrology, which focuses its thinking on who your are and is very logical and little space for the unknown.

Ancient civilizations are believed to have used oral translation as a method of teaching, because there is not a large amount of evidence of written materials that we have today. Ancient Hindu philosophy has stated that the older civilizations were much smarter than we are today, due to the fact that they used much more of their brain capacity. In fact, they felt that modern man would be a genius if he used ten percent of his brain. Still these ancient civilizations left man several mysteries that modern man with all his available technology has not yet been able to understand or comprehend.

There has been a huge renaissance surrounding the vedic astrology, which began from the start of memorizing the planets all the way to how their special movements affected nature and man. Prior to the first books on vedic astrology oral teachings were extremely effective and efficient as students were able to remember over ninety percent what their teachers taught with one hundred percent comprehension. With the introduction of books students began relying more on being able to fall back on being able to look the information up, which was the only down to books.

The most important harmonious aspects to look for in a long term relationship and synastry compatibility are the Sun and Moon aspects, Venus to Mars/Sun/Ascendant, and Chiron to Venus/Sun/Moon/ Jupiter, and Neptune. So look for these first.

Now the reason some of the conjunct aspects are good “sometimes” is because it depends on the individual. With Saturn, it delays, teaches and restricts – but it can also be a source of dependability and stability. If you are someone who needs a lot of freedom in your relationship and doesn’t like to be depended on too much, this aspect can feel too restrictive. On the other hand if you are looking for a companion who can be bring much needed stability to your emotions (moon), self expression (sun), or
to a relationship (Ascendant/descendant) you might prefer this aspect.

Neptune on the other hand can be quite dreamy – to a fault. Disillusionment and victimhood could be brought out in a relationship with this aspect (not to mention substance abuse). With Uranus, a conjunction could indicate many separations (say your partner was a pilot or traveled a lot on business this wouldn’t be so bad) however, if you were someone who preferred a 9 to 5 partner, this could cause many problems. And then there’s Pluto well, intensity is good for some things and not always good for others…..

Next we’ll look at the aspects in synastry compatibility to LOOK OUT FOR ! YIKES

Look for squares, oppositions, and sometimes the conjunct between you and your partner’s planets, especially between the outer planets (saturn, neptune, uranus, and pluto) to your personal planets (sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars). The missing planet, Jupiter, is a mixed bag. At a square or opposite aspect it more or less adds arrogance, exaggeration, laziness, and overdoing. Nothing too bad, but could add an annoying element to the mix.

The most challenging (to say the least) aspects to look for are from Saturn to Venus, Moon, and Chiron. It is called the “heartbreak aspect” in some astrology books. So look out for these ! The next most difficult are from Uranus because of the reversal or separation effect. Pluto to your personal planets can be bring you manipulation/possessiveness/jealousy/over-controlling. And Neptune again, can lead you down the road to dissolution and disillusions.

So as you can see squares and oppositions mostly denote a problem area in a relationship. However, it can also have a stimulating affect as well. You must look to your synastry combinations to see how your squares and oppositions are working in your relationships.

Next look at the midpoint between the Sun and Moon. Take your sun/moon midpoint and check to see if the other person’s Sun or Moon makes a Hard aspect to it, such as; conjunct, square, opposition, sesquiquadrate, semi-square within 8 degrees. Then check his/hers to yours. Combine the two midpoints, to get your combined midpoint, and check both sets of moons/suns to this point. This adds energy to the union to make it “official” so to speak – Not that it always ends in marriage, but there is rarely a couple out there that doesn’t have some connection here. You can even check the
progressed charts. Progressed sun by forward or converse progression can make this aspect too, especially when the couple meets or when they become more committed.

Now, in assessing your synastry, if you were looking for “Mr. Right, or Ms. Right” and it’s important to have sparks in your relationship look for harmonious aspects involving venus with mars, pluto, and uranus and Mars to jupiter, and ascendant. If you are looking for a good companion and the sparks are not so important look for venus and moon, venus, saturn, sun, and ascendant. If you want a relationship that isn’t too predictable look for harmonious aspects with uranus. If, however, you love stability, longevity and security look to harmonious aspects with saturn.

Now remember, even the most romantic couples, even the couples’ whose marriages have become golden, and even cinderella and prince charming, had some challenging aspects in their synastry compatibility. However, it makes for a more enjoyable relationship the more harmonious aspects you have. And you have to decide what’s important to you in a relationship, what you can overcome, and what you can put up with !
